Il y a déjà eu nombre de critiques sur la série Daredevil de Marvel, et dans l'ensemble je pense que tout a été dit. Une série noire et adulte, portée par un excellent casting. L'intrigue est prenante, la réalisation, notamment des scènes de combats (la mémorable scène du corridor) est excellente, les dialogues sont très bien écrits. Il faut toutefois rappeler l'inégalité des épisodes, certains excellents côtoyant de moins bons. Bref, Daredevil saison 1 était une bonne création d'une année fructueuse, et permettait de tourner la page de l'abomination hollywoodienne sortie aux débuts des années 2000.
Non, sur cette critique, penchons nous sur la saison 2. Nous retrouvons nos héros quelques mois plus tard, toujours dans les mêmes bureaux miteux, toujours fauchés, mais ayant un certain succès auprès de la clientèle démunie des bas fonds new-yorkais. Hell's Kitchen s'est débarassée de Wilson Fisk, mais le vide du pouvoir attire, comme toujours, de nouveaux prétendants. Sauf que l'un d'eux, un gang irlandais, se fait massacrer par un ennemi inconnu. Et c'est ainsi que cette nouvelle saison démarre, entre intrigues juridiques faîtes de joutes verbales jubilatoires entre nos héros et le procureur Reyes, incarnée par Michelle Hurd, et surtout, la grande révélation de cette nouvelle saison, The Punisher, Jon Bernthal.
Après être devenu célèbre au cours de son passage dans The Walking Dead en tant que Shane, Bernthal avait enchaîné avec un certain talent de seconds rôles dans des films assez plaisants à regarder comme The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury ou Sicario. Il incarne ici Frank Castle, un homme destiné à punir les éléments criminels de Hell's Kitchen avec certes moins de retenue que Daredevil, c'est à dire en les truffant de balles. Contrairement au très mauvais film éponyme, The Punisher de Bernthal et l'intrigue qui en découle est probablement la plus grande réussite de cette deuxième saison. Puissant, émouvant, c'est un rôle merveilleusement bien écrit. Impressionnant dans ses altercations physiques, visibles dès le premier épisode, mais aussi dans son aspect psychologique et émotionnel. Un spin off est supposé lui être dédié, et si j'avoue être d'un naturel sceptique face à ce genre de projet, force est de reconnaître que je veux croire que ceci serait l'exception qui confirmerait la règle. Car les scénaristes ont absolument tout compris de ce qu'on attend d'un personnage comme celui de Frank Castle. J'ai tout de même peur qu'ils arrivent à ruiner un personnage après l'avoir amené à de telles hauteurs mais bon. Je choisis de faire confiance à Netflix pour ne pas faire un spin off aussi pourri que la dernière saison de The Originals. Ni même que les deux premières en fait. En fait, la comparaison est plus qu'inappropriée, mais bref, prenez The Originals, ajoutez les films The Punisher et Daredevil, mélangez le tout, et vous aurez exactement ce que j'espère que Netflix ne fera pas si effectivement ils font un spin off. Mais bon, contrairement aux scénaristes des travaux préalablement cités je pense que les créateurs recrutés par les productions Netflix ont du talent.

Néanmoins, cette saison n'est pas parfaite. Enfin presque. Disons que les dix premiers épisodes sont pratiquement parfaits. Et je dis pratiquement parce que je suis probablement encore sous le choc d'une telle saison et qu'il faut que j'essaye d'être un peu objectif. Mais en un mot, cette première partie est géniale. La réalisation est encore plus parfaite qu'avant, ils ont réussit à chorégraphier une scène de combat encore plus mémorable que la scène du corridor, certains dialogues, notamment ceux avec le Punisher sont remarquablement bien écrits, l'intrigue initiale est impeccablement ficelées, rajoutant même des tensions inexistantes dans les comics. Le seul défaut que j'ai vu est peut être Foggy Nelson. Certains diront trop de Karen Paige et je ne suis pas d'accord, mais même si j'adore ce personnage drôle et attachant je trouve qu'il n'évolue pas assez dans cette saison, mis à part à la toute fin et le seul bout d'évolution qu'ils mettent me déplaît fortement. Mais bon, j'avoue être assez d'accord avec le créateur de Mad Men : "Si vous pensez aux fans à chaque fois que vous écrivez un scénario, vous ferez systématiquement le même épisode".
De plus, même si elle vient perturber la relation Matt/Karen, l'arrivée d'Elektra, interprétée par la française Elodie Yung et son alchimie avec le Daredevil de Charlie Cox fonctionne à merveille.
Non le vrai défaut vient de cette saison vient après. J'essaye de ne pas vous spoiler mais en même temps ne perdez pas votre temps à lire des intrigues avant de voir une série ça ne sert à rien et vous êtes supposés être capables de vous faire votre propre opinion. Pour ma part, je trouve que l'intrigue part vraiment en cacahuète à partir de l'épisode 10. Lorsque Frank Castle n'est plus l'adversaire principal mais qu'on laisse la place aux méchants de l'organisation "The Hand". Mais c'est aussi là qu'il faut que je reconnaisse un de mes défauts. Je n'ai pas lu les comics. D'ailleurs je suis le genre d'ignoble salopards qui est fan de nombre de films de super héros mais qui n'aime pas lire les comics. Du coup, quand j'ai vu débarquer une bande de ninjas utilisant arcs et épées, désolé de le dire, mais j'ai pensé à Arrow, j'ai pensé à la League of Assassins. Je m'attendais même à voir débouler Ras Al Ghul à un moment dans la série. C'est le moment où la série accepte de laisser totalement tomber le semblant de réalisme qui en faisait un de ses nombreux charmes. Je sais qu'il s'agit d'introduire les fils qui mettront en place "The Defenders" mais c'est un écueil auquel a succombé The Arrow de DC (bien qu'Arrow n'aie jamais eu la qualité de Daredevil, c'est certain). Je n'ai rien contre les superpouvoirs de héros, mais vouloir les mélanger porte atteinte à la cohérence de certains univers je trouve, je ne suis pas certains que faire des mash up soient la meilleure idées qu'aient eu les comics. De l'autre côté les crossover Flash/Arrow marchent bien. Mais ces crossover ne sont pas représentatifs de la dernière saison de Arrow, qui manque jusqu'ici, à mon avis, de presque tout.
De plus, toute l'intrigue autour du Black Sky est vraiment foireuse. Non seulement, malgré une bonne histoire racontée par Stick (toujours ravi de le revoir) on ne sait toujours pas pourquoi Black Sky est si dangeureuse que ça ni pourquoi les gens de l'organisation "The Hand" sont prêts à tuer pour lui ou elle. Mais en plus il semble y avoir plusieurs Black Sky du coup, qui peuvent être en vie en même temps. Alors si l'organisation en trouve deux, devant qui est ce qu'ils s'agenouillent ?. Tout le problème des leaders d'ailleurs des deux camps de cette guerre mystique et millénaire est totalement floue Nobu, saison 1 déclare à Wilson Fisk que lui même a des supérieurs. Dans la saison 2, on ne les voit jamais. Stick, toujours dans la première saison parle à un homme, probablement Stone. Dans la nouvelle saison, Stick a l'air d'être le leader de la Chaste. C'est une incohérence que je trouve dommageable. Enfin, le personnage du Blacksmith, arrivant en fin de saison est quelque peu superflue
Bref, Daredevil saison 2 est globalement une réussite. Son intrigue est construite autour des relations qu'entretiennent ses personnages et il est intéressant de les voir évoluer dans leur environnement. La qualité de cette première partie de saison est absolument remarquable, à l'image du nouveau costume de Daredevil, bien plus classe que celui dévoilé à la fin de la précédente. S'il est dommage qu'elle ne se finisse pas en beauté, et avec certains soucis de cohérence en fin de saison, il y a toutefois de beaux cliffhangers qui me donnent très envie de voir la suite, et j'attends la saison 3, comme la reste des séries de l'univers The Defenders, avec beaucoup d'impatience.
